How to increase the RAM usage for minecraft! [Works]

Hello! I didn't know where i should post this but i choosen oftopic since it dosent match anywhere else

As the title shows i have found a nice way to "fix" minecraft to run better on 64 bit systems. No its not taskmanager stuff but something else i fell over when searching the internet.

OK let me explain step by step


1. At [Desktop] (or anywhere you want) create a new folder. Name the folder for example "Minecraft"

2. Put ur minecraft.exe in the folder you just named "Minecraft".

3. Now right click in ur folder and Create new .txt file (name it what ever you want)

4. Open the .txt file and write this:

@ECHO OFF
"C:\Program files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx2048M -Xms1024M -jar "The Path to where your minecraft.exe is. It this cause C:\Users\user\desktop\minecraft\minecraft.exe"


-Xmx2048M = maximum Ram minecraft can use
-Xms1024M = Allocated memory

If you want to be sure this works, press F3 ingame and look at the right side of the screen.

REMEMBER! Double-click the .bat file from now on to use minecraft with higher RAM. When you use the .bat file, minecraft will automatic open. If a black window apear and closes in 1 sec you have written something wrong in the path.

yea i know it says 900 mb x) just an old post i found that said that Yea i know javaw.exe is located in both folders, but i just tried one of them and it worked. BUT i dont know if it works for both?

Also, it's only located in the x86 folder, unless it's hidden in the standard Program Files

x86 is 32bit version java, the one in program folders, is 64 bit version. :c if your on a windows 64 bit, that is.

Macs can use .bat's. I was just wondering if the coding would or wouldn't be compatible with my Mac

Should work for Macs too since it only changes the way the JRE handles Minecraft.

Uh i do it and it says Unable to acess Jarfile

C:\Users\John\Desktop\minecraft\minecraft.exe

Already done so years ago for Crysis, Mount and Blade Warband, MineCraft and uh... fuck knows, but I've done it atleast 10 times...

That's a helpful post, but a couple months late. Try reading the date of the previous post before posting next time

I just hope everyone knows that opening up space on your RAM (rebooting....) doesn't affect Minecraft performance.

i went ahead and posted it since if you search on google for increase memory minecraft, this thread was the most relevant on the top 10 results. and that info will help mac users.

Let me guess, you literally copy and pasted that without reading it?

You replace the section in quotes with where your minecraft exe is located.

This SERIOULY butt-fucked my computer; it set the MAX RAM it could use at all to 2 gigs, so my computer if pretty much fucked, any way to fix this?

It's in the top right hand corner, but not the very top. Like 2 inches down, and 4.5 inches to the left.
