How did you think of your name?

I thought it'd be interesting to get some insight into everyone's name picking decision.


For instance, I chose sieve because one of the chapters in Fahrenheit 451 is titled "The Sieve and the Sand" and I like that book alot.

my brother made a PS3 account named GaMerG77, and I stole it then he made a PS3 account named GuNBoY99 and since I use this username for EVERYTHING.

i just took my irl name and typed it but switched up tho order!

I ended up with this name due to a terrible not funny misunderstanding a few years back abd it has since grown on me.

I used to be a member of a HIGHLY active roleplaying guild on WoW. I was making a story arc for my Main at the time (a temperamental middle-aged woman named Dierly Finepoint, because of her RP armor the guild called her White Tigress). I needed a name for her late husband (he'd died few years prior) and was working on the story arch while logged into the guild Teamspeak server. One technique we used to named characters was to take two or three spoken syllables and create a name out of the sound. Someone was defeated in a battleground and commented "We'll rule ya next time!". Thus the character Rulyon Finepoint was born. He was such a popular character in my story arches (they got to know him through old letters and Dierly reminiscing) that when the guild migrated to a new server I rolled a character with his name. He quickly became my primary toon, and soon after that, my gamer tag.

R3V3NG was born a long time ago on the first online game i ever played as a child. It was called Dark Galaxy. My origional name was a721 as the login name and abolisher as the charecter name. Later on i decided to combine the two into aba721 I used this for a few years, finally i discovered somebody had stolen my username aba721 and was using it. This angered me so I took on the name of the clan I had created in Dark Galaxy, which was Revenge, that has a story all to its own for another time. But being as someone already had the gamertag revenge on xbox live I was forced to use R3V3NG, which at the time in my youth, I thought was the correct spelling. Over the years it has stuck.

For me, it was way back in runescape. I created an account, and actually read their terms of service (yes, you read it right!) One of their terms was that you could not share your account... so being the clever little pre-teen, I decided to name my account "Only_me", since I was the only one on the account. The name was taken, and I was given numbers, "Only_me395". I took it, and over the years I've had a variation of my name, but without the underscore as it looked very silly. Onlyme395, Onlyme, Only395, etc..

I assume the majority of people can figure how I got my name. :3

Mine is simply my surname with UK on the end
I've probably had 10+ usernames since 2005 when I started gaming, although it all still started with "Yarwood2142" (HIGH FIVE POPE!! xD)

Rendarg was an orc blademaster and veteran of all three wars, whom i used to play back then in WoW. I think the fullname was Rendarg Bloodclaw or Bloodtooth, something like that. He was the chief of an oldschool-like orc clan in the ashenvalle/barrens area. We played out some nice story arcs and had great events planned, until everyone drifted away because of the usual Raid crap. I first wanted to use something nordic like for the name, like Ragnar, you know, Ragnaroek and so on, but that was already taken, so i used combination of similar sounding words and ended up with Rendarg. Before that time i used more common gamernames, i think RedVisor was one, or Crusader86, but the current one i just like the most, the connection is a bit more personal because of the great roleplay times

My name that no one cares about is from way back from when I was a baby I had no hair until I was like 1&1/2 years old so my family called me "Baldy"
My E-mail is BaldyMountain so I made it Baldy"moint" the 7 is random. Acually the 7 I think came from the last # I looked at

Well, since i didn't think thrue completely i ended up with Jacobthatsme since i use it sometimes as username..
What i didn't know were that it would become my ingame name tag.

I really hope that Notch will someday add a way to change that name to whatever we would like.
But we would still keep our ID signature (Username) and also friend-list feature would be neat (kinda like steam).

Well... My name is [CENSORED] which translates to Peter, and Porty is "Party" with a crappy pronunciation, namely, most of my friends'. So... It used to be PeterPorty, then suddenly, everybody started calling me Pete instead of Peter, so it's PetePorty now... Yer. ^_^
