    [Expect this topic to be updated when more changes roll out, In true Minecraft fashion we released something that was half-finished]

    A new age has dawned upon Orcworm!

    Rule Changes
    - Killing NPCs such as pets in a Non-PVP zone will result in a temporary ban since it's a gigantic dick move.

    Economy Overhaul
    To make the economy a bit more interesting we have made the following changes
    - You start with 500gil
    - Gil can no longer be gained by simple being online a lot (no more 1gil/minute)
    - Gil can be earned by doing jobs for other players/staff
    - Gil can be earned by selling items to one of the Orcworm Inc. stores in New Orcshire

    The City Project
    To discourage the building of hundreds of tiny, unorganized villages (and just because we can) we proudly announce the City Project. This project entails the building of 5 large cities, listed below, and connecting these to each other with a railroad.

    Each of these cities is ruled by a City Council of 3-4 trusted players. They decide on all matters pertaining to their respective city, whether this is who can become a citizen, the city planning, intercity relationships (aka City vs City Wars) or just plain old rent.

    This rent is NOT for the personal use of the Council Members but exclusively for the improvement of their City. This rent money can for example be used to buy additional zoning to expand the city, to buy building materials or just to bribe the other Cities not to attack you.

    As may have been clear by now: A player may only be a citizen in ONE of the MAJOR cities. This is to promote intercity activities. And besides, in real life you usually are also only a citizen of one country.

    New Orcshire
    aka Spawn City. Contains the Server Shops and a major railroad station linking to the other major cities.

    New Kumatora
    located to the north of New Orcshire. A tranquil and serene city in the middle of a large forest.

    New Frostside
    located to the west of New Orcshire. A frigid and harsh arctic city.

    Eccenotcem City
    located to the east of New Orcshire. A dark underground city.

    Abydos
    located to the south of New Orcshire. A hidden city in the desert based around Egyptian architecture.

    Oh and this also means we would like you to refrain from making new villages while the construction of the major cities is still in progress. The people who are chosen to be on the City Council will get PMed in the near future. Once they have accepted/declined I'll post a list of them.

    Excellent, new moderation so its harder for players to get money its impossible for players to create and build new cities whether big or small and everyone who isnt an idiot already knows that any money anybody gets from any city is going to be taken and used for all the wrong purposes

    A few questions:
    Once the construction of the 5 major cities is completed, can we make a stop on the railroad that is just a big room full of teleport runes to various villages/towns. (you could also put a fee on this e.g 25 gil for a rune)

    Is there a place to apply for the councils or are they already chosen?

    Changes mostly seem ok, but what's to stop the City council players from getting WAY more money than everyone else,considering they're probably going to have income pouring in all the time and all the other players will only be making it through selling the odd item?

    Also, if we're going to have City wars and make it so formal, I say that the cities should be PVP enabled zones, and have to build walls and organize defences and such to prevent people from raiding them. Just the way it was in reality, etc.

    Would also make it interesting in terms of cities trying to attack each other and find their way through the defenses.

    Wow, by the looks of everythings this looks to be an awesome server setup, cant wait for the towns to be set up and, i especially like the idea of having defences and such What a Face

    Would love to be a mayor of one of these towns xD

    By the way i would like to make one suggestion, since gil is no longer earnt regularly and its no longer easy to work out the prices of things, maybe a minimum/average/<empty space> wage would be useful, maybe in later times we would not need this, but right now maybe we need some gil guidelines for setting the prices of items, (and plots... Smile)
    Rather than having to ask around for it, someone could just think how much work say a pumpkin is worth, and use that as a price, for starters...? What a Face

    I came up with the name. It is a contraction of the latin phrase Ecce Notch Podicum which, according to Google Translate, means something along the line of "Behold! Notch's Ass.". I found it appropriate for a underground city.

    There is no stopping Council Members from getting way more money. That's why only trusted players who will put this money to good use will be elected as Members. If the temptation proofs to use it for personal gain proofs to much the Member will be kicked out or the admins will inn the money and keep a tally of the city treasury in the Admin forum.

    "Trusted players" means what exactly?

    Secondly, as for Rykleos being on a council: why is something he did in the previous server now becoming a huge advantage in the NEW server? I thought the whole idea was to get everyone on a level playing field.

    If I had known that starting up some random city on the previous server would let me rake in the cash on the new one, I would have made like 10 cities Very Happy

    He already has experience with running a rather successful city (sertainly one one of the most notable) and I, and as far as I know any other admin, have never had any problem with him.

    We will (eventually) provide the city outline (to make all cities more or less the same size) and a trainstation linking up to the global network.

    The rest (city layout, amount of rent, cost of plots and building the foundations) is up to the Council to decide amongst themselves. You can of course hire players or recruit future citizens to help you out in the building. See it as a competition who can build the best city.

    I'd probably be up for being a citizen of Abydos, maybe Guard Captain or something. Keep the defenses up, build walls, keep mobs out etc.

    i can help with any city, i owned like 3 in the last map.
    (monstacity, was booming til everyone there got banned, various reasons)
    (telg village, inherited from arbr, never reached its full potential)
    (stockade, never reached its full potential due to tangy getting banned ( Sad ) and the fact i didnt own it for all too long)

    I'd love to try and rebuild something along the lines of Moria, but the heightlimit would screw it. Or it'd look cheap with non-epic abysses and way too small scaled things.
    Something like the grand halls / corridors with all the huge columns is much more doable, but actually just as useless for a city, in which you want to have plots everywhere...

    And on a sidenote, I'd love to help building and designing Eccenotcem.

    Something like the grand halls / corridors with all the huge columns is much more doable, but actually just as useless for a city, in which you want to have plots everywhere...

    And on a sidenote, I'd love to help building and designing Eccenotcem.

    Yeah, Minecraft is good for recreating many things, but Moria is just on too grand a scale to fit within the height limits and such. Also just wouldn't look right with all blocks.

    But you could make a sick underground city, for sure.
