    minecraft security Empty minecraft security

    Post by paradox74 2011-05-06, 08:08

i have been recently informed that my minecraft account was hacked(sorry if any one came one and said anything out of line) but i have always felt secure on minecraft so i had always had the "remember password" option checked but now i want it unchecked. i want to know how to uncheck this i may seem simple and i click it to uncheck it and the check mark goes away, but after i delete my password and either attempt to log in like that or just close minecraft it next time i check is selected with my password again. what can i do? Sad i use the downloaded version in case you need to know.

EDIT: I also am running on windows 7.
I didn't know we had a tech support section sorry.

    Go to Start, Run.

    Type: %appdata%\.minecraft
    Hit enter.
This should open your minecraft folder.
    Delete the "lastlogin" file.

Start the minecraft launcher, it should have cleared your username and password info.

Let me know if this worked.

Do you mind me asking, why you want it unchecked? You are more secure/safe to have the client remember your password rather than type it in every time you login..

Well say you have a keylogger, if you type it, it gets logged. But if the information is already there without any keys typed, its a bit difficult/different to obtain it that way.

Then again Im not an expert on security. Be sure if you make accounts on other minecraft sites, to not use the same password you log in-game with.

I'm assuming Minecraft stores the passwords as md5 hashed (aka it converts them to a 16 digits - I think.

So when you enter it, it'll automatically convert to a random (that matches the password) 16 character password which it'll cross-check with the one in the MC.Net database.

As Xltimus rightly said, if you have a keylogger, whatever you enter on your keyboard will be logged and (usually) sent to the hacker.

Only delete the whole folder as a last resort.

If you have a key-logger, your minecraft account should be the LAST thing you worry about.
Besides, if they push a key-logger to you, odds are they can push/pull more, including the stored minecraft login information.

Deleting the lastlogin file should be sufficient to fix your specific problem.
Not saving your password is always a good idea if people other than yourself use your computer.

    Mod: Please lock thread.
