i dont know how far notch has developed the weather yet but i personaly would suggest that we get some sort of plugin that makes sure it will snow in snow biome, instead of raining there.
Now before you comment on that idea, keep listening.
I furthermore would suggest that everything that gets in direct contact with snow should also be covered with a snow layer, as long as it does not emit any heat like torches or lava. This would turn snow into an infinite resource, which would make way more sense in my eyes.

Also, im kinda missing water puddles during or after rain. I would like to eighter see a thin layer of water on the surface which would disappear after a while after the rain ended, or if thats not possible, lets have water blocks in small pits or something like that, which would also disappear after a while.

As awsome as this would be I foresee alot of lag that would come with the plugin, however I wouldn't mind trying a
    plugin for a few days.
How ever think notch should fix that in 1.6

the snow thing is just a biome fuck up by notch. because the map was made before the 1.5 update, the snow biome's and the snowing areas didnt get put in the same place. i think when 1.5 came out, the map just chose at random where to put the snowing spots. i say this because there are a few places that snow, yet before 1.5 they were forest/plain biome's and (Like NFS) there are places that rain, where before 1.5 it was snowy. although a plugin that could maybe allow you to choose where biomes are located or edit the biomes would be the shit.

    so +1 =3

EDIT: the update fuck up isnt just for snow, but the idea still stands, the weather biomes just got placed randomly from the looks of it. when i was exploring with my compass it started raining and i found a forest place where there was no rain or snow. nothing at all :/

its funny though because in a new map, desert biomes have nothing, snow biomes have snow and forest/plains have rain, just as they should. that just reenforces my idea

if its so easy and you got so much time to even suggest that idea, why dont you do it yourself?
    I got shit to do.

And about the lag. People. Honestly. Everyone was like "What? nether on the server? Honestly? Its gonna lag like shit!"
As as you guys see, it barely makes any performance difference. The lag is not caused by the nether.
There is no way to forsee lag, you just have to TRY a pluging to find out if it wears on the performance or not.

Hehe, I was implying that it was hard and takes shitloads of time and that no such plugin exists in an admittedly assholish manner.

As far as I know, our Rain/Snow problem is caused by the MAP,not the game, I think it`s because were running a map from pre 1.5, as every server I`ve seen with a 1.5 map has functioning snow.

Admittedly we could use a weather plugin. Rain seems to happen way, way too often.

WeatherSync is nice, because you can match it with a dry place like Arizona if you want less rain.

Yeah, I meant more like a complete rewrite of the weather system. As far as I know weather is based on the world seed. And thanks to that we are royally fucked as we run a >1.5 map.

Read a few comments down, the weather is client side, the server just tells it when to precipitate.
Snow in forest biome and rain in snow biome isn't possible.

Did I not suggest trying it out and I have never had a problem with the nether plugin. I "foresee" lag issues because if it isn't a well written plug then it may have lag spikes when it precipitates.

    Epic idea is epic.
BUT!!! now i think we should for now just eighter disable or reduce weather changes until notch furtherly improved the weather. This is always the easier and less laggy solution before we start getting shitloads of mods again to regulate the weather and advance it.

Like patrick said I read a week ago to. The weather can't be changed server sided. Client decides where a forest biome is or a snow one. The server sends to the clients when it rains/snows.

It could be different if Notch decides snow and rain are just 2 different things. A code for snow and one for rain.

I say just tune it down, so instead of raining once a day, it'll rain once a week or less.
