    Protecting Your Chest

Hello, this is my tutorial on how to lock your chest.
Why? Sometimes, LWC can just leave the server, unlocking tons of chests.

Their are multiple methods of doing this:

    1. The Topper
    This strategy utilizes one basic principle;
"I you wanna steal it, you have to grief it."
For the smarter ones, you may have worked out how it works already.
Simply top your chest with any sort of block, preferably the weaker ones.
if someone wants to steal it, they will have to destroy the block.

    2. The Sealer
This uses the same principle as the first one.
Simply cover your doorway to the chest room with some sand.
Again, They will have to break the sand.

    3. The Hider
A more discreet way of hiding chests, simply apply a hidden doorway or something.
Maybe use a painting, or just block the doorway up, or use a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to hide it.
Sometimes redstone may be involved, for all those redstone geeks out there.

    An example of the topper.

if someone griefs the topper and steals the loot, they will be banned, but the stolen items won't be reinstated.

Srsly? So if by any way someone gets to your chests which are unlocked due to a LWC fail, your basicly screwed?

Bluebannana, being himself, was so upset when he lost a few diamond tools and like 20 iron ingots and 2 stacks of obsidian and begged orc to give back his stuff, and he got full diamond from it.

Seems fair to have your items reinstated, can the logs even detect which items are taken from chests?

Locking all doors has the same effect, no one can come in and steal without abusing the rules. The most effective way to protect your chest even without /lwc is your own zone. Then you can use "The Topper" or similar, and no one besides you can remove the block to access your chest.

But in my opinion, living in a zoned city and /cprivate'ing all doors, chests, and furnaces, should be very safe as well.

Another way to protect a chest's content: Make a shop, other people shouldn't be able to steal items in the chest. Downside: Nobody else but you can, works like a crippled lockette.
Or buy a plot in a zoned city, can't access chests unless you have building rights. :p

I like the tutorial, though personally I keep all my chests and such in a secret cavern at bedrock level in which the only way in is through a teleporter. ^^

Yes, I did used to give things back. After doing so 4 times and asking them to be more careful (i.e. follow some of the things posted in this thread) they continued to leave their chests out in the open. At that point it's their own fault.

sorry for the necro, but its better than wasting a new topic on this.

So if a person has followed things like this guide, and hidden it as best as they could have, you might consider it?

I saw when lwc is down on the chest and for somereason it goes away, you can access the chest even if you are in a zoned area.

Oh, then this will be really useful, Jarvisd. Zone fuck-ups conflicting with /lwc? Ugh, the compaints.
