    Building up an independent outpost that I am calling Caladan.

    Current location: -1602,70,-1700 Waypoint established. Facing and starting in north signature spot, clockwise: torch, white wool, sapling, white wool.

    Citizens: Flingle

    Caladan: Independent outpost 2011-011

    Purpose: Aspiring city location, if I can put the right time and effort into it.

    Rules: Try to be authentic. No floors of glass, with lava underneath. Going for a 14-16th century med-evil look. Behind the mountain is fine for personal building. Leave the lake as is. the flat area looking from my home atop the mountain is for community structures (think shops, the sand/water nametag is going to get torn up) Try to follow the flow of the land as much as possible. If you need to harvest sand, please either do it far away, or put a top layer back when done. I don't want any gaping holes. The mountain will become the town hall/citadel.

    I have an example farm near the protected bay, that would work for reeds or wheat, feel free to take it apart to see how it works, just put it back when done. If you want to help me expand, let me know in game or this topic first, so we can talk about building standards first.

    Building code: defensive structures should be 99% cobble (yes, not so pretty, but more authentic looking to me.) All other structures should be a mix of cobble/smoothstone and planks/logs. Make sure everything is WELL light. Structures that have a below ground component should not be larger underground than above. No Floating structures, try to make it look real. No building should be more than 3 stories high, and none should obstruct the line-of-sight between the mountain top and the defensive walls. I will try to rough in the full inner defensive ring, and later add the outer. The outer will be quite large, and all farms should be placed in this area when it is ready.

    Final thoughts: I am going for a sense or realism for the architecture. Teleport pads are fine, but please sink them into the ground, and fill with smoothstone once set.

    A few people have asked what they can do to help, so I will post a general plan.
    Spoiler:

    • Red is the proposed wall line
    • Yellow is proposed towers (the one furthest south will be a large tower to guard the channel entrance.)
    • Green is forest clearing work
    • Pink is leveling (the nametag is going) down to one block above water line. This is for market/shops.
    • Dark blue is future housing (no work yet)
    • Light blue is dredging (make the water at least 4-6 blocks deep)


    If you want to help, by all means please do! Reply here so I know who is doing what please.
    If I ever get Caladan big enough to apply for city status, All helpers are automatic plot owners, and get first pick.

    Sounds Interesting I might want to help with this endeavor I'll tp there next time I'm on. What sort of mid-evil are you looking for defensive stout buildings or graceful tall slender towers?

    The wall has a few towers already, defensive look. Thanks for the offer. Oh, and not simple squares, have some sense of style.

    Great build rules, very well written. As you know I am just toying with the idea of letting people contribute to Lion's Keep, so I'll be watching out how it works out for you very closely Smile.

    Thanks, but that's actually the INNER wall. Embarassed (Again, going for a sense of realism.) Outer wall will most likely be a combination of fences, low walls, and terrain features. I want to turn most of the mountain into a citadel. Take a peek at some of the fortress work done by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, especially Neuf-Brisach. This guy was a genius when it came to fortification and siege warfare.

    The area inside the inner wall will be shops, residences, and a small barracks. The citadel will have a full garrison quarters, workshops, store rooms, etc, and be linked into a mine system.

    Well, that's the plan...

    Psychotron_3000 has joined the Caladan project.
    The inner wall perimiter is 90% done, just need to actually build it now.
    I have staked out an area for houses, and where i plan to level for shops.
    Probably need more room for houses.
    For houses, if you build one, don't build higher than two 3 block stories, and only build the first floor in stone or cobble. Use wood or wool,etc for second story.
    There is a model home built now, so you can kind of see what I mean.

    i can help build housing and other buildings as long as i dont have to put in ALL my building supplies, i have a chest of cobblestone but i dont have much more than that.

    I would like to extend the gap at the water. I make work of it. I would like to help more but I'm like a douchy pit bull considering building in a good way and I'm the one that just can't build "pretty" so to speak.

    So in other words. I'm always looking for work that has a view of simple minded and completely time dying. I just listen music or something and have a fine time killing the dirt.

    EDIT2: I can also do the forest clearing.

    I welcome any help! I have already put in a basic outline for the water channel.
    It needs to be widened and made deeper. I would like it to be 8 or so blocks wide, and 3 or more blocks deep.
    It should visually appear to be capable of allowing passage of a medium sized ship.

    For the forest clearing, the inner wall is about 80-90% complete. There is a full outline on the ground at least. All trees inside the wall can be cleared. I will replant a park area once we have done some landscaping.
