Obsidian Generator

Due to ZuWrath asking me to make one today (I haven't made one in about a month prior to today XD), I decided to sell obby generators to the public. The generator converts redstone into obsidian while preserving the lava source. The generator is a far safer and faster alternative to regularly mining obsidian.

Materials required for me to make:

Approximately one stack of the block of your choice
1-2 buckets of lava.
1-4 (possibly more if my experimental generator works) buckets of water.
At least 4 redstone (to be converted into obby)

Prices:

1000 gil for the basic generator (4x1x1 obsidian)
2000 gil for the deluxe generator (4x2x1 obby)
????? Gil for the ultimate generator (will update if/when successful prototype is complete)

Use a diamond power pick for maximum effectiveness.

Isn't obsidian generating extremely easy now that we have nether?

1) Go to some nether portal and type /sethome
2) Go through the nether portal and mine the obsidian frame in nether
3) Type /home
4) Move to point (2)

For ultimate, I'm planning on getting at LEAST a 3x3 area (for powerpick to work to its fullest extent).

@Galwail You *could* do that but this method is much faster and safer than going to the Nether. It centers around a grid-like pattern for FAR faster collection.

I currently have a 6x2x1 generator. Based on my experimentation, the there is no way to make it more than 2 blocks wide, ever.
I have seen some prototypes the are 3 dimensional, but not sure if i can make anything that lets you powerpick more the 6 blocks per hit. (working on a stackable design, stay tuned! Stacking right ow requires a LOT of effort.)

Hence why I said "experimental prototype". :3

hmmm, I had an idea for a 3x3x3 generator but haven't build it yet, probably should give it a go. x3

What is going to fuck the economy is the fact runes consume redstone and other resources. As redstone gets more scarce, watch the prices sky-rocket.
Granted, the map is nowhere near depleted yet...

3x3x3 with 1 empty block generator works fine, but needs a lot of dirt work in between the layers. But 26 obsidian blocks with just 1 pickaxe use 8D

sure, it's fugly, made in 2 minutes and requires 5 minutes handling with dirt and buckets. xD

Mine is FAR more simple and just as effective. XD

However, I do like the ability to make it multi-tiered. :3

Yeah, I know, the problem I'm facing is that you have to move the water level if you want to go one layer up,
else the lava flow stops and turns into cobble. xP
but yeah, 2x3 is kinda easy, but I think I get the time from modifying the generator with dirt each time back since I have to mine obsidian only once for 26 blocks, and don't use as much redstone for the rune. ^^

My Obsidian Generator only gives 4 Obsidian blocks per turn, but that doesn't matter to me.
Putting new redstone dust and pouring lava takes seconds, it's mining the Obsidian that takes time!

Which is why I'm trying to optimize the use of the power pick. Gornemant's seems ideal for that but it's not idiot-proof, i.e., it's not place redstone, dump lava, ???, derp.

Yeah, making something idiot proof is pretty much the biggest issue, though hopefully that'll get easier to accomplish with pistons, already got a few ideas for automation. ^^
