Is this good if I wish to get an XBox 360?

I plan on getting my own XBox 360 soon (Or PS3, depending on how PSN deals with the current issue).

I stumbled upon this video (I really love my monitor, and realllyyy do not wish to buy an HD television for my room...) and wanted to know if people would recommend doing this.

Thoughts on this? Opinions?

I've seen it done before, I don't see why it would be a problem to do so.

Zu, if I were you, I would wait until the next generation of consoles before spending you money on the current ones. But, if you absolutely have to buy one of the current generation consoles I would recommend the xbox. Not trying to start a flame war, but the current PSN situation makes it even clearer which service is superior. The main arguments from PSN advocates is that it's free unlike XBL, which in other words would be like comparing restaurants and saying that the Free Soup Kitchen is better than Olive Garden because it's free. It just doesn't make since, and for the whole Xbox on monitor thing, it should be very easy to set up. But if you have any problems with it, just contact me on skype as usual. Hope this helps.

That's a HDMI cable and HDMI ports aren't standard on PC Monitors because not many "average" graphics cards have HDMI slots, not to mention the fact that DVI = HDMI.

Anyways, yeah, it's possible to buy a cable that converts the shitty xbox input to a VGA / DVI.
You could also get a HDMI to DVI or VGA, but be careful though because some monitors don't fully support the same HD Modes that the 360 uses and so you'll have spaces at the sides of the screen (or it goes off the screen, or it just won't display at all).

P.S. Xbox's suck yo.

Pretty much this. Project Café (the successor of the Wii) is going to be officially announced this E3 so I doubt it will take more than 1-2 years for Sony and Microsoft to follow suit.

See, going by what godjmike and FillerB have agreed upon, it makes sense to wait, but, I mean... I have the money, ya know? So it doesn't actually hurt to grab myself the current generation consoles.

As far as plugging into the monitor: The XBox I have in mind is all Black and has an actual HDMI female on the back of it, which my 24.5" Acer LCD Monitor has an HDMI female as well to connect with. It even CAME with the HDMI cable.

My question is: Would I _need_ to do as this guy is showing? Or can I just plug my HDMI cable?

(Basically: Do I _need_ to go out and buy a whole new Xbox to DVI Cable, or can I save a few bucks? XD)

LOL, I use my 2. BENQ 22" for my flashed (thats right folks, im awesome) Xbox + my old Logitech z4, works fine.

Also seeing that the resolution of most games doesn't exceed 720p (which technically is HD)... yeah you won't really notice the difference. And if you do, then it shouldn't be THAT bothering.

Depends on the upscaling of your monitor but probably not.

Edit: Here's a list of games (both PS3 and xbox360 and their "real" resolution. First post is a wall of technical mumbojumbo. Third post is the 360 list. Don't worry about the resolutions themselves. It will/should look just fine.

So basically every game is 16:9. Not all are HD, but all will stretch nicely enough.

More or less. Exceptions that I see on the list are CoD:Black Ops (1040x608) which is 1040/608*9 = 15.39:9 or Halo 3 ODST (1152x640) which 1152/640*9 = 16.2:9

But seriously, only REAL graphics whores would care about that kind of stretch.

I also made a discovery...

My monitor came with an HDMI Cable...

AFAIK, the XBox comes with an RCV-AV to Audio-Out adapter.... which means less money spent!

If you spent more then $150 on a monitor, you will be able to get one with an HDMI port. Also, every new xbox 360 comes with an HDMI port.


On topic: ZuWrath, if you have the monitor for it, and the xbox as well, it's really as simple as plugging them in.

xbox aint worth it imo. Except for Halo i hardly play it. If I were you and had money to burn, I'd upgrade my PC

If you have enough friends that play xbox frequently enough for you to even consider buying and xbox, and you're willing to spend money, I would say it would definitely be worth it. Regardless of how much of a PC Elitist you are, it's not too hard to understand that when considering a console and or PC, you have to take the account of friends, games, and of course money.
