"Griefer pitfall traps" ?

I fell down a big pit and died after going into a little hut/igloo thing made of diamonds and gold and lapis and other lovely things (this was a while ago, i'm not bothered about what I lost), but I had only gone in to see what was in there ): Those things are indiscriminate.

This suddenly sprang to mind after seeing a grief report thread by GoDjMike in which one was involved, and it seems to me that they can result in the unnessecary deaths of upstanding citizens such as myself - if what I assume to be a "griefer trap" is actually what I think it is. If I just fell prey to some scoundrel's cruel contraption then they are a dick.

'Twas right in the middle of a town too, ready to lure in unsuspecting people who are merely curious. Can such dangers be left untamed and uncontrolled? Only time will tell.

You can thank our friends in 16 bit for those. They have 4 different ones, some take items some just burn you alive.

Well i mean.. i know people are allowed to build on their land and all that. but should buildings in spawn and major cities really be used in such a cruel manner? I personally enjoy exploring and i dont grief to do it, nor do i intend to grief during/after i do it. Think its a bit of a detriment to the society killing curious non griefers for just walking around. Reminds me of this one server i joined with it literally spawning you in a lake of lava...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaanyways "Griefer Traps", which let's me honest is just a misnomer, are not banned. Yes, they are assholish, weak, annoying and quite efficient ways of liberating people of their capital but they are just constructions like any other and can be avoided like any other. And like every other construction they are allowed to be build, provided that it isn't done by griefing and/or harassment tactics.

Also on a side note Hatter. You are not the only one who disagrees with 16-Bit. However be advised that the majority of their little group, who joined for reasons I can only imagine, have nothing to do with the disgusting habits of the few. And as far as I am aware they have nothing (yet?) that would be reason for a ban. If they break the rules and I implore everyone to fucking report rule breaking by _anyone_, then they will not get any preferential treatment.

not blaming the group 16 bit, but there are people in the group and people that arent that act within the gray area of the rules to make the game purposefully unenjoyable on a whole and that is why i am currently looking for a new server, though i liked the majority of you THAT sort of bullshit is enough to drive me away. i'll remain active on the forums (so y'all dont miss my avatar or my ramblings) and maybe still logon once in a while. Its just unappealing for me to deal with the same type of people in my leisure time as i do at work (/terrorists)

Griefer traps are fucked up but legal :/ nothing we can do about it. and its not 16 bit, others in the group get tricked to .-. i fell victim to hejjins trap at the status >.<

Yeah because a certain staff member is a little to buddy with 16 bit and bans on their request, as I have seen occur more than once, I was banned.

I wasn't banned for going up against 16 bit, I simply told Redjello to stick it and that I wasn't putting up with his bs. However, because of the means that I tried to do that it was seen as grieving.

Its your fault if you fall and die is a hole; its a SMP server so look out where you going.

got one of those things at my creeper, yes... a member of 16-bit built it lol, still they gave me access to it, and youd be surprised what people carry with them to their death, example: 100 pumpkins, why would you even....

nevermind.

More effective griefer trap = ask for a /hp

Depopulates the server a little and gives you the opportunity to find diamond that the griefer would normally find..

As a staff member you have a position of 'power'. You are expected to have the common sense and maturity to look at each individual event on this server and make a sensible and unbiased judgement call. The fact that "the Modifying the immediate area around another player's structure for the sole intent of "pissing them off" is likewise not allowed" actually had to be made a written rule so that staff would actually discriminate against this kind of behavior is amazing.

As a staff member you should have looked at that particular situation and gone, Red why did you build that cobble stone wall right there and why did Mtbers have to resort to this. You then had two options: one is you could have gone BAM, your both temp banned until you explain your actions in the forums; or two, you could have actually asked me and Red in game for an explanation. But you didn't, you did as your friend Red asked with out looking at the whole picture and only banned me.

As staff you don't make decisions that are biased from your friends thoughts simply because of the social obligation. You are obliged to do what is best for the server.

I'm not saying that your a terrible staff member as you are staff for a reason. But in this case your actions were questionable by even some of the other staff members and general members of the server.
