How do I join a leaked 1.8 server?

Whenever I try to join a 1.8 server this happens:
1. If I add it, it can't reach it.
2. If I direct connect it gets stuck on 'Connecting to Server'
Any Help?

And where would I find Strongholds/Villages, I've gone almost to the farlands without finding one.

Villages are found on flat land. Like desert and plain biomes.
Suggestion: type in a seed. Go on freebuild. Find a village. Get coords. Exit and go to survival with the same seed. Go to coordinates where the village was.

They only spawn with Seeds?

Every map has its own seed, you can check it with f3.

I know.
I was asking because some of the older mods didn't work if you typed in a seed.

I seriously doubt that. According to the Minecraft Wiki article on the Farlands:

You know what I mean ruly >_>
And while I was playing earlier I found a lot of villages, the way they spawn makes NO sense to me.
