I think they just got annoying. They would appear in people's homes so I guess that's why. Can't say for certain though.

How about this: we pay like 50 gil for permission to build 1 portal anywhere?
You must get the materials on your own though. (Obsidian & Flint and Steel)

Yep, the same portal opened in my house twice. I think towns should be allowed portals with permission though

The gates act like runecraft portals in that you can make them out of any material + a signature block, so if towns wanted one making that wouldn't be a problem, as long as they used a unique combination.

In thaat case, I would like to do two things,
1. Use my 50x50 on my current /sethome to make a town there
2. get a portal there

You could just use the portal at spawn, go find a place in the nether, set a /pw.
