Petra - The Sandstone City Empty Petra - The Sandstone City

    Post by timeer2 2011-02-13, 19:06

Once WorldGuard is back up, I'm gonna make a sandstone city called Petra - you all no where the name comes from. Purecraft don't like this idea, so thats why i'm gonna make it.

Plots will sell for 100-200 Gil each.
    Anyone wanna help?

    IDEAS -
    -Sandstone walls, with torches
-Centrepiece is a Sandstone pyramid with a shop in it.
    -Floor made of sand
-Pathing made of sandstne, as well as plots may cause visibility issues, may be replace with wood or stone.
-Cactus Lamps! A 2 block cacti with a sandstone block on top of it. Torches surrounding the sandstone block.
-An egyptian like entry gate, may contain lava.

I liked working on Gnometown with you, Timeer. I'll help, for sure.

    Also, two questions:
Can I prepay for a big lot?
Can you set up a place to donate sand for the city? If so, I'll get started gathering mats now, that way by the time the city gets started we'll have a good supply at hand.

Ahh a this is more like it some theme and pizzaz.

I did a Western town on another server with a desert thing going on, as for the plots, I just marked the corners with wood in the sand.

If I'm on when you are I might lend a hand farao

Sounds great! Only one thing... How are you going to get that much sand? I'm still struggling to get small amounts for builds in my city! I've worn out too many diamond shovels to count, and still I need more sand Sad.

That's a point, make a warp to some donation chests in Petra and collect from them frequently, I wont mind collecting a few stacks.

Yeah sure, Rulyon, I'll let yoou prepay. Worldgaurd has some abilities that let you create walls out of anyblock, and replace alll blocks in a zone with any block.

Why don't you just get one of the admins to do it for you?

Using world guard for the floor I wont mind doing, that's if world guard will work for admins, but this sounds like it could be a real nice project you should make the walls fancy, and stylized, not just cuboids.

Take a look at some arhitecture

Besides if I'm going to be overseeing city building, and zoning fees, I will charge drastically less for a city that's had a lot of effort and resources put into it.

A pyramid in the center? Isn't that a bit boring, every server has pyramids. Why not make something like that:

Hm, not the best work i think, but i hope you know what i mean, with lots of minarets and stuff, more like this:

just found a screenshot where someone recreated "Lut Gholein" from Diablo 2, complete with palace, streets and stuff.

i'm not saying we should just copy it but... well.. maybe use it as "inspiration" ^^

When it comes to building on smp, it'd a good idea to do a quick version on a classic server, screenshot it and use it for a reference. Like just a sample of the wall, and entrance so you know it's doable, and looks good. Don't have to, but it would make your life easier Very Happy

i didn't mean indian style, i meant something like old cairo, more arabian like:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

well, but egyptian style may look nice too, its your city and your decision. you could check it the game Serious Sam, it had a whole world with egyptian architecture.

That's one sweet sand castle there, and the Diablo II recreation is great as well.

I'm going to be setting up stores as soon as the merchant functionality is back up, and I'd definitely like to set them up in an Ancient Roman/Egyptian themed city. Might as well put my resources to use on some big project.

Perhaps an interesting way to do the city aesthetic would be an ancient Egyptian city such as Alexandria, which had then been occupied by the Greeks and Romans. That way you could include all three of the types of architecture in there.

Save the sand for now, im going to wait for zoning - sand is really easy to grief these days.
Found a breeding grounds for the site, though.
