Now that mobs drop glowblocks, netherrack, soul sand, etc, all of these previously rare and valuable items are now common and worthless as dirt. Basically diamonds and lapis seem to be the only rare things around anymore.

Hell, portable fire used to be worth like 1000 gil a piece since it was so rare, and now every second zombie drops it.

It kind of sucks to have a huge stash of previously rare materials turned worthless overnight, without warning. At least with some kind of warning we could dump the valuable stuff before the economy dies, but now I know a lot of players who are stuck with huge stashes of this junk that is unlikely to ever be worth anything again.

Portable fire was also bad (before Mob Drops).

I haven't seen any Glowstone, Nether, Soul being auctioned lately, and I know plenty of people have it.

Perhaps the mob drops should be limited to food items etc though? :p

That would be a good idea, methinks.

I'm not one of the guys who was hit harder by this. I sold basically all my glowstone blocks to Monstaboi for 10 000 gil or something like that a week or so ago. That was roughly market value, and the price was going up with demand quite a bit.

And then now glowblocks are worth like 3 gil a piece, when they were worth 18 or so before. Poor Monsta is stuck with all of the now worthless glowstone.

I dont really see the problem with nether items becoming worthless. If they were removed from the custom drops, they would simply be in the hands of those who took advantage of it before it was removed. It wouldn't help new players get gil, only help the older, richer players get more gil.
I dont see how the economy is trashed because of this. Ok, it sucks for those who had plenty left, but a bit of forum activity would have gained them the knowledge about getting custom drops before the fact. There was even about a day from orc's confirmation post about it working on his test server until it got implemented on the live server.
I still sell plenty of glowstone, so the demand has not gone down. Because of lowered prices, more people can enjoy the wonders of nether items. There isn't a a downside to this, unless you're only thinking about yourself and your wallets.

Seriously though, making nether items worthless is only punishing SOME people. If you were fortunate enough to sell your nether stuff back when it was worth its weight in gold, you now have tons of money. If you were the people BUYING said nether items before it suddenly became worthless, you just got screwed over for no reason.

The rich people will benefit anyway: they're the ones who have the materials and space to build giant mob farms where they can collect a hundred thousand times more than some new guest could hope to get running around with a stone sword.
