Rules for Home Expiration Empty Rules for Home Expiration

    Post by Guest 2011-03-20, 00:30

    Hey guys.
I've been wandering around on the server exploring and pvping anyone I can. If I find any unlocked chests, I tend to dig through those as well.

I've found a few bases here and there that seem to be unoccupied, yet, they contain highly valuable materials that were used to construct them. I don't want to grief, but I've also kept track of the owners and have never seen them online. Of course, they could be on when I'm not on.

    Here are my questions:

1.) do bases/homes "expire" and become open for looting?
2.) is there a way to see if a specific player has logged on in a while?
3.) how long would they have to be 'absent' for me to be able to take all their stuff?

They've got some cake on the counter I'm dying to eat!

Thanks for running such a great server!

Questions like this make me wonder if giving everyone access to /bb stick wouldn't be such a bad idea. All three of your points would be solved using it but I cant imagine what the lag would be like. Only one way to find out...

I would be happy with that new command Smile No pressure, though. I'm loving the server as it is.

I just don't wanna break rules. I'm cool with bending the heck out of'em, though.

Edit: What if members got /bb stick? that might solve the lag problem, but again, i know absolutely nothing about hosting and the issues that come with it.

There's a problem with /bb stick. It tracks when a specific block was placed.

In the event of some of the older homes created on the server pre-date the mod itself. This means that there is no date on the home itself. Using this knowledge, someone can loot an old house that is very much active. I take mine, for example. Dec. 26th, I "Moved" into my cousins home, and built up. After 2 weeks, it was fairly complete. I know for a fact that /bb here wasn't available while I was building. Also, because a new build of bukkit, you had to delete existing /bb logs, since there is a new way in storing the logs.

tl;dr - Don't give them /bb stick and expect good things to happen. More grief will come from it in the end.

Permissions restrictions would be a wise idea. We don't want every Tom, Dick, and Harry issuing rollbacks as they see fit...

I've added the following to Member+:

    * /bb here [range] - List users who made changes in the surrounding area, and the number of changes made.
    * /bb here username [range] - List changes made by that user in the general area.
    * /bb stick 1 - History Stick - Gives you a stick and imbues it with the power to see into the past. If you have something in that "hotbar" slot, BB will store it for you while you administrate.
    * /bb stick 2 - History Log - Same deal, but with a log.
    * /bb stick 0 - Off - Takes the stick/log and gives whatever you had in that slot previously back to you.

Players will be able to check block history but not actually rollback blocks.

Regarding the log resets, buildings that have no logs should be left to a staff member to decide whether or not it is truly abandoned. Buildings that're over two weeks old and have log history can be considered abandoned if the owner of the house has also failed to appear on the server in this time period. If this guideline is not followed then any blocks removed will still be considered grief and treated appropriately.

That's an interesting decision. I can't wait to see how it plays out. This means that mods don't have to catch all the griefers. People can bb them, post on the forum, and all is settled.

Excellent. Could help the mods out a bit. One question though.... if the logs show the building was built long ago, how would they know if the player was in the area recently or not?

In that case I guess a sign could be left on the property, informing them that if no contact is made within X days then the structure will be taken over.

You can also check the chests and see when they last looked in, as many people who use there house will check their chests etc.

I think you made a mistake here Orcworm. As Rulyon said, BB logs won't do anything to date activity. And as you said before, putting a sign up has the same effect! So why give BB commands to members+ if the reason you're giving them for can be used with a simple sign?

The thing most players look at first is their chests, BB logs when a chest was last accessed. Straying away from this completely it will also give players the ability to report griefers themselves rather than pestering higher-ranks in game to do it for them.
