Sponge is only available as a normal building block in Creative mode. In Beta it is possible to be obtained via inventory editing, but its only use is decorative because it does not remove water.

You forget you can make sponge available with certain plugins, not to say that there is a current plugin being used for so. But there is such plugins to make sponge available.

i know but we don't have some plugin installed that can craft sponge :p
