hello all, I am unsure how many of you have heard of the youtube video series, "man vs. minecraft" but after watching it with my friend, i decided to try my hand at survival. here's the first video of the series here where he explains the rules and everything:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfFwCZ1J-bY
so basicly im going to try and survive for as long as i can using the same rules as this guy did, however I don't know how to record my computer, so im writing about it in sort of a "story" thing, hence the category of the forums its in. And I'm apperently not nearly as good as the guy in the video, because I've only managed to survive 4 days, while he has survived 14... and ill try to provide screenshots of my shelters when i can... well without further ado, here we go:
Prefix: I was dropped off on the island for one mission and 1 mission only, survive at all costs. This is minecraft Iron man mode. I have to eat twice a day, and can ONLY eat twice a day; Once in the morning once at night, otherwise I die. I have to have a drink of freshwater every day (found in ponds not oceans). If I am killed, that is the end of this world, it gets deleted, and it’s done. And I can only ever break the first (or rarely second) layer of any blocks. And the only blocks I can ever place, are crafting benches, furnaces, and torches (and even with furnaces and crafting benches, I can place a maximum of 1 in each shelter). I can only carry 12 of any items with me and only fill up 18 of my inventory slots. Also I can only craft stone and wood tools. And I have to travel to a new biome every day, and find a new shelter every day. I will survive for as long as I can. And I will try to provide screenshots of my shelters when I can.

- Day 1:
- I appear in a snow biome, with pine trees all around me, it’s a beautiful place, but I know I have to prepare for the long night ahead. I immediately start punching trees, until I get about 5 logs. I craft some basic tools and start my search for food, shelter, water, and coal. After about 20 seconds of traveling I find my water source for the day. There are some pigs nearby; I hungrily kill them in a hurry. Now that I have found wood water and food, all I need is coal for light and warmth, and a shelter to survive. I find this tiny little hole in a hill, which is in no terms safe, or realistic, but as it gets darker, I have no choice but to spend the night there. I start harvesting cobblestone to make a furnace and cook my dinner, when the biggest surprise ever comes to me.
- Night 1:
- I found a cave against the wall of my little hole in the hill. Not just any cave, a cave that goes down into the ground about 15 blocks and stops. This is the best luck I could’ve ever had. I place torches all around it, and make my furnace at the bottom. I cook and eat my delicious pig meat, and cook my breakfast as well. I realize there is only 1 problem to my small lit up cave, I can’t see what time it is outside, and if I can’t eat before the next night, I will die. Then an idea occurred to me, the little hole was against the hills edge, so this cave might be too, I manage to find a spot where after breaking 2 layers, I have found a single hole to the outside world. Now I can remain in my shelter and keep track of the time. I craft up my tools for the next day, and figure out what I need, and what can be disposed to keep my pack lighter.
- Day 2:
- I had not encountered any mobs over the night, so I decided to wait on breakfast until I went outside and checked if the coast was clear. Once I made sure no angry mobs were following me, I ate my breakfast and got on my days journey. Today I had more than enough coal, and wood, and I didn’t need to craft any more tools, so finding shelter, water, a new biome and food were my only problems. I found my daily water very easily, and a new biome as well. And I found another great shelter. Except there were 2 problems, it was way high on a mountain, and I still hadn’t found any food. There were a complete absence of pigs on the world, I found some cows and took some leather for armour crafting later on, but I couldn’t find any pigs. It was past noon when I finally found 2 pigs, and got enough food for the night, and the next morning. Now I had to climb a very treacherous cliff to get to my next shelter, which was a very thin cliff jutting off of a mountain about 20 blocks above a valley (see picture below)… but I made it with seconds to spare until nightfall.

- Night 2:
- As is imaginable, mobs were not a problem in this shelter, even skeletons were to far away to harm me. The only enemy here was gravity. As this was a very thin tall area, one slip, and I was dead. And I had to cook my food, and manage until the morning. Luckily I had sturdy feet, and I did not fall. However, as I broke 1 dirt block I nearly trapped myself in the middle of the overhang.
- Day 3:
- I started my day early as I knew I had to get down this entire mountain and still perform all the needed daily tasks. I set off and as I was about to go down the most treacherous part of the mountain, a creeper decided to show up. He was about 4 blocks below me, and I had a choice to make. Go down the other side of the mountain and take about 2 hearts of fall damage, or confront the creeper on the front side. I chose to go down and confront the creeper. I managed to hit him off his ledge and he fell to his death. As I descended to the bottom of the mountain, another creeper decided to show up. I managed to kill him with 3 stabs of my stone sword, once to knock him back, 2 together to finish him. After this little bit of trauma, I got back to my needed things for the day. By this time, I needed more wood. I went up to some trees and started chopping them up, when the dreaded SsSsS came from behind me, I jumped to avoid the hidden on-comer, and was extremely lucky, the creeper had only done ½ heart of damage to me. I found water and food with no problem, and even more cows for armour. Next I came up to another huge mountain. There were caves everywhere; I just had to find one that could sustain me for the night. I found a few backup ones, but as I explored to the top of the mountain I found one that went back in about 10 blocks, and came to an end, this would be my home for the night.
- Night 3:
- I build a work bench and furnace over the entrance of the cave, disallowing many mobs to enter. Tonight is my first night I had to confront mobs. First a spider came down, but was unable to pass my barrier, (dumb AI…) and I killed it easily. Next a zombie came to drop by, who was also unable to come past my barrier, I killed him aswell. Then a creeper came by, also no problem. Lastly as morning began to arise, a skeleton came by and pelted me with an arrow 2 times before I could kill it.

- Day 4:
- I Ate my breakfast quickly as I was damaged and began my descent down the mountain… followed by the worst luck of my life. First I fell down into a cave that appeared out of nowhere taking 2 hearts off of my health. Then a creeper blew up, taking 5 hearts of my health with it. And lastly the creeper blew me right into a burning zombie, making me take 1 more fall damage, and the zombie finished me off easily.
