im thinking when i get my laptop back i might make my house a sort of watch-tower near spawn and i was just wondering about a couple of things ... 1.how close to spawn am i allowed to build ,2. is there any area near spawn that dosnt obstruct anyones view but also has a descent view itself ...

Must be at least 100 blocks from spawn if I recall the rule correctly. Not sure because it never was an issue with me. I actually prefer to build further away, as there will be fewer cases of Mr. Random McGuestypants (Thanks Filler!) griefing my builds.

obstruct basically means get in the way of

Most buildings near spawns are abandoned... just look for a good place I guess.
