I am undecided... If you could copy all the hard work the still active players have done to the new world, and if it would contain spawn city and kumatora village especialy, i might say yes.
    Fresh new resources everywhere!
But if there would be a lot missing what we had been working for, id say no.
Maybe a reset or 1 year rollback for the entire underground area would be cool if the complete reset wont happen

I were referring to a freshly started economic system, I dont think it would work for the current one Smile The differences are just too big, and it would end up hurting the new guys rather than the guys with a lot of gil.

That's an idea to work with. Would that apply to everyone in a town/city or to EVERYONE'S buildings in the game world?

On the economy part, i highly support the idea to add options to actualy DESTROY gil!
It just keeps getting produced, but every game, every virtual society has a way to produce money, transfer it and finaly delete it. Id recomment to bring up some commands like a virtual store with the server that lets you destroy gil for special items or abilities for a limited time.
Something like purchasable timed invulnerability from monsters and fall damage.

There's a plugin that allows you to 'rent' commands for so much Gil each use, not sure if it will be updated for 1.4 though.

As Lizard already kindly suggested, let's keep the serious talk to the admin forum. There are a giggleton of ways to fix the economy and we can hardly discuss them all in here.

As for the reward system-suggestion... If we are going with only 5 major cities... Why not assign (shared) ownership of these based on commitment on the current map? Not only talking about how much gil someone has (because that is such a shitty indicator with the iConomy-bugs lately) but also on amount and quality of builds.

A complete map restart is a GREAT idea, if what you want is getting the most players you can to leave and never come back.

I've been working on my buildings in this server for months, and only finished them a week ago. The fact that I have lots of infrastructure, money, and resources is the ONLY reason I come back to this server.

If the map is reset, I'm gone, and I know the half-dozen or so others I know on the server sure as hell aren't coming back either.

How convenient, I'll import my building into my SSP, at least it won't be lost forever.

Of course, I'll still have absolutely zero reason to come back to this server after a restart, as will my friends. All of the wealth, resources and base that I've accumulated over 3 months will be completely wiped away.

This is basically the equivalent of Blizzard saying to World of Warcraft players "Hi guys, we're going to reset all characters and money to 0, so everyone can start grinding from the bottom again! It will be FUN!" And then when the people ask why Blizzard thinks this is a good idea, they can say "We had a poll on the forum, and 14 voted for it with only 10 against!" And then the players can say "but you do realize only 0.1% of players actually ever visit the forums, right? And of those even less care about polls? Trashing all of our work based on a handful of votes is beyond retarded, right?"

Unless I'm not getting the gist of your post, you're implying Minecraft is in the same finished, polished state that World of Warcraft is in. I think you'll find a good 60-70% of active players have a forum account as well. Of course this proposed reset is not forced, but do you really expect to be playing on the same map forever more on a game like this?

To expand what Orc said. Most of the "new" blocktypes (the different trees, lapis) are only, infrequently, found along the map border and the more common blocks (iron/gold ore) will eventually run out. Do you honestly expect us to manually reseed the entire underground with new, and old when they run out, blocks?

And, as has been said before, we really, really could use some varied biomes instead of just the endless seas of grass.

Now an alternative to a full map reset could be to pull a SpA-style extension to the world. Though I don't know what this will do to the server itself.

Other than make it possibly lag to the point of unplayability?

3000x3000 is a large enough world. But, it's been littered by a LOT of junk blocks+abandoned buildings and as such, should be reset. :3

The map is currently 2650x2650, doubling it and adding warp points to areas around 4000 blocks outwards from the spawn sounds pretty good to me... but it would only mask the problems we currently have with the economy etc.

Godcraft's map is 16000x16000 and according to Kane is starting to show signs of death ;p.

The economy could be fixed without having to do a map reset, though admittedly it would be a hell of a lot harder thanks to people already having a oodleton of valuable blocks hidden away.

Anyways, economy fixing ideas in the admin forum? That doesn't really need any input from the community.

Edit: Though an expansion still leaves us with the problem of having lots and lots and lots of abandoned houses/villages.

Forever? No. Until I get tired of the game and play something else? Yes.

The entire appeal of your server is that it has PERSISTENCE. Everything stays. It has history; you walk through areas and find hidden underground bases, mines, houses, everywhere.

If all of that disappears, then I just wasted 3 months playing on your server to gain absolutely nothing. If there had been a warning at spawn that said "We might decide to trash the server at any time, so long as we can find a dozen people to vote yes on a forum", then my friends and I would never have built anything, because obviously it might just disappear.

I was talking with some of the other members on the server, and we agreed there is absolutely no point in building or doing anything on the server right now, because chances are it will all be wiped away in a week.

I think the problem would be solved if we really would convert the history of the server into a new map.
How about making people pay gil for having their stuff saved and transfered to the new world?
It doesent even need to be the same exact location. You just need to make sure overground thigns stay overground and underground things remain underground. Maybe some people will rage but eventualy you could also, instead of having them pay gil, make the zoned stuff optional to be transfered.

This would satisfy everyone! Those who demand new and fresh resources, those who are afraid orcworms history will be lost, those who want new biomes and those who dont want all their work to be removed!

But if we allow people to pay gil to have it transferred, then it'll imbalance the new economy.

Um... the economy is screwed up. That's one of the main issues now. Idlers that got their gil can buy out everything and remain at the top of the world, thus defeating the purpose.

dont forget about my other argument i included.
Why making donators or people with zones pay for the decision others make?
Lets have zones of active donators transfered to the new map!

Orc confirmed that would happen. Donators get their free zones back.

The zone itself isn't transferred over, but your free 50x50 can be placed in the new map. Basically, your free zones are still yours, just not in the same place.

lizard i think you dont understand my argument...
Im not talking about having the ability to zone something again in the new map...
im talking about having your current zone, and all its content, transfered to the new world.
Like for the donator zone kumatora village which i am so found of.
It would be saved and placed in the new map.
    That is what i mean.

People who have zones spent a lot of time and effort making the money to get those areas zoned, is that all going to be wasted?

The economy was fine until the mobs started literally dropping diamonds. I don't know who thought that was a good idea, but I posted that it was stupid and that mobs should only drop the normal stuff like feathers and perhaps food. But instead of simply fixing the mob-drop problem, they say the economy is trashed and let's wipe the whole thing out instead. Why not just fix mob drops?

I get your argument now, but it goes back to the same issue: the rich get richer, thus defeating the point of a map restart.

Idlers? You think people get 20 000 or 100 000 gil from idling?

Most of us got it from being around the server for a long time. You know, regular users and long time play being rewarded, the way it should be? You haven't been around nearly as long as most of the people who have a lot of money, you shouldn't assume that they got it through illegitimate means.

What exactly do you have against long-time/regular players? If it's so unfair for us to have an advantage by playing the game more and using commerce intelligently, then what about donators who can literally just buy gil and zones with real money, and in-game advantages as well?

Your right about that zones normal members paid for should be saved and your also right that adding high droprates to formerly rare items to monsters broke a lot of the economy. But it is absolutely undenieable that the server will one day run out of resources. Then eigther the population drops to zero and the server closes, or the map gets changed to provide new fresh resources.
