Improved chat

I recently heard(saw rather) people talking about a mod called improved chat, I looked it up and I decided that I would give it a try. But I can't seem to get it to work. I always black screen. I'm not a very tech smart person but I figured this would be easier to install because there are only 5 class files. I have tried with rusigamies(spelled wrong) mod loader. I also tried using TFC's mod manager but that couldn't figure it out either.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try installing GUIAPI.
Also, is there an error log, or just a black screen?

There is just a black screen and do I have to install modloader as well?

I use improved chat and don't use modloader, I assume you've deleted the META-INF folder and whatnot?

yea i may not be tech savvy but i can read instructions

I looked, and quite a few posts on the furms were on how this mod has conflicts.
What mods do you have?

this will be the only mod i will have put on since 1.3
i just tried with GUI API and Modloader(GUI API said it needed it) and i still got a black screen.
EDIT:i was just browsing and someone had a picture of his bin folder and i noticed he had fewer things than i do in my bin folder i have extra jar files titled minecraft-1.1_02 minecraft-1.2_02 minecraft-1.3_01 minecraft-1.4 minecraft-1.5_01
he didn't have those, might those have something to do with it?

I had that problem. All you have to do is get a fresh version of minecraft.jar and everything but your game saves.. and reinstall the mod after you have a completely new minecraft.

*facepalm* i figured it out. i decided to go through one by one and load mod-loader then GUI API then improved chat before i was going through and doing them all in one shot but i thought maybe some of them (mod-loader and GUI API)need to load first. so i got a new minecraft.jar and loaded mod-loader, opened minecraft, then copied the GUI API files over loaded minecraft, and finally the same with improved chat.

where would i find "improved chat"? cause me and ciphon are looking for it and cant find it...

Hmm I got the black screen thing on my Mac, wonder if this will still work, I'll try it, thanks slave

edit: anyways, i did that, and now minecraft works fine, but it didn't install the mod even though i went through all the steps perfectly, suggestions
