Alright, it is time for my journey in Man Vs. Minecraft! You can see my friend's post here. Anyway, to get to know the series, you can go to www.manvsminecraft.org or check out Ciphon's dub. I strongly encourage you to read the rules on www.manvsminecraft.org, because I will not really be going over them.
This is Man Vs. Minecraft Season 1, so stay tuned for other seasons as I will be doing others!
So Man Vs. Minecraft is where I go for 14 days in Minecraft and try to survive on a strict rule set. I will provide screenshots of each of my shelters and I will be going Ironman mode, meaning that I will go until I die (if I die). Once I die, that is it. I delete the world, pack up, and go home. I have to eat twice a day ONLY; Once in the morning once at night, or I starve. I need a drink of freshwater every day (ponds, not oceans). I can break one layer of stone, 2 of dirt, and 3 of sand/gravel. I can only place furniture: crafting benches, furnaces, and torches, and 1 per shelter. I can only carry 12 of any items with me and only fill up 18 of my inventory slots., with one tool of each (shovel, pick, etc.). Also I can only craft stone and wood tools, and I need to travel to a new biome every day, finding a new shelter naturally made, as I can't build. Each day will be written in total; there will be "Day X" that includes the full day and night of that day. I am One Man with One Life, so Let's Roll.
Now let's get started!!

Now let's get started!!
- day 1:
- I was dropped off here by my crew just 5 minutes ago. I am going to survive in Minecraft for 14 days on a strict rule set. I have nothing but the clothes on my back and my wit. One Man. One Life. Let's Roll.
I spawn in a foresty flatland and look around. I see a cow but no pigs. Problem. I go kill the cow and get 2 pieces of leather. I start my voyage to the next biome. Along the way, it starts to lose trees and get mountainy. Perfect for my new biome. I then realize that I am definitely not coal starved which is excellent. I get to my next shelter a little past noon, collect wood and coal, and just set up. I see some pigs on the distance and go over, acquiring 2 full days worth of raw porkchops. This must be cooked tonight. As I head back to my shelter, night starts to come. I hunker down. This will be my first night...
I settle down in my shelter, digging into the wall a bit. I place torches so that I can see well and won't be suddenly confronted. I make and place a crafting bench and then make a furnace. I cook all 4 porkchops and have my dinner. Very fatty, juicy and a bit salty but the sensation doesn't last. I hear movement. Then a moo, and I know I am safe. Tonight is a quiet night. I prioritize for the morning and set up how to get out. I see a skeleton in the distance and know that breakfast starts when he dies. I hide behind my furnace and let all my fears escape me. I wait out the quiet night, wondering how the next day will go.
- day 2:
- The day starts with a skeleton burning to death. He is not nearby but I dig a step out of the dirt next to me to escape. I am safe and take out my cooked porkchop. I enjoy my breakfast and know that I need to get moving. I see some cows and take their leather; enough to make a helmet at my next shelter. I then throw out my stone and dirt for travel. Let's go. I move north and leave my mountainy area, soon finding a snow biome. I continue travelling, find some freshwater, kill a pig for some more food, and soon find a perfect cave on the edge of a lake. I put some torches and go out for food and wood. By the end of the day, I am good; food for tomorrow and wood to repair tools, etc. I dig out some coal and place my workbench/furnace to block mobs. I then dig a bit into the stone behind that. I check for sunset and it is here. Little did I know that I would get no relaxation tonight.
Night comes and I eat my ration, enjoying the nourishment from my day's hard work. I back into the wall to wait out the night. I make myself a leather helmet and put it on just in time to stop, scared. I hear footsteps, and it hasn't been 8 minutes yet. My muscles tense and I stop, barely breathing. There is a clink. I move to look outside, from behind the shelter of my workbench when suddenly, a skeleton drops down on top of me from above, just outside of my cave. "Shoot," I yell. I rush back to the wall (where I was before), dodging an arrow by a mere inch. I sit there in the corner, adrenaline high and heart pounding. I hear the sounds of a skeleton outside the cave, not knowing if this is my doom or not. Occasionally, I look out, just to get another arrow launched at my face. Luckily, the skeleton was outside the door, and wasn't inside. I kept telling myself, "Just make it 'till morning....just make it 'till morning." Very soon, I hear a zombie. He is right above me. I am currently surrounded, not knowing how much worse this might get. I hear more walking and sense that that thing has just come into my cave. I force myself against the wall. I see movement inside my cave, in the corner of my eye. Suddenly something comes at me from behind my workbench/furnace. It is a cow. It moos at me and I feel better. Then I see a spider, following the same path as the cow. "Shoot!" I back up into the corner, not helping me to get away. It launches itself at me repeatedly as I fight back with my stone sword. Overall, I survive, with minimal damage. I lean out to check for the skeleton. It is still there and I try to coax the cow into the corner with me. It doesn't work. Eventually, I survive and eat my breakfast to the sound of burning skeleton. I have survived Night 2
- day 3:
- I eat my breakfast to the sound of burning skeleton, knowing I have just survived the night. I am extremely lucky. I hope to have a better night tonight, with just enough food to get me through today. I abandon my shelter and go off north, avoiding a creeper. The travel is long and hard but I find water and a new forest biome. It is like a bunch of islands with water in between, meaning there are no caves. I find pigs and cows, killing them for food and leather. I realize that I need to find shelter. It is past noon and I decide to stay in a tree tonight. It is easy to get into, so I need to "edit" it for safety. I am low on coal but will not risk it, as it is getting dark. I get into the tree and cut a pathway to a small, natural "window." I light it up and go back to the entrance, digging out lots of dirt so mobs can't get in. I get some wood and go back into the "hole." Time to survive the night.
- The Inside of my Shelter
- The Outside of my Shelter
I head back into the tree and make a crafting bench, putting it into a hole where I cut wood. I craft some boots (and put them on) and use stone to make a furnace and place it in an uncomfortable drop, making it nice and cozy. I look out my "window" and eat my cooked porkchop, enjoying the night. I cook the rest of my food and, with nothing else to do, sit and wait out the night. It is a calm night. Even though it is quiet, it is still very tense. I occasionally hear walking and a snort and sometimes hear just walking. The unknown walking worries me and I don't know if it is a creeper or not. Many times, I walk out to the entrance to see a porker (pig) messing around but never see the source of the walking. I am afraid all night that my walking in the tree is heard by the "thing," and I am terrified. Soon, I see the sunrise from my "window" and am glad I survived the scariest night yet.
- day 4:
- I look at the rising sun and eat my porkchop, leaving 1 in my pack. I know I need food today. I go to the entrance of my shelter and check what I need to drop for travel. I throw it out and leave my peaceful tree for the day's travel. Nearby, to continue north, I decide to cut through foliage...as it is the quickest path out of here. I can go around but choose this instead. I hack through, finally clearing a path, when I jump and my nerves spike. A creeper pops up in front of my face. I whack it with my axe and realize I am going to die if I don't get out of there. I turn and run, avoiding a possible explosion. I take out my sword and turn around, seeing the creeper right there. I turn and run more but need to kill it. I whip around and slash wildly, killing it and just barely making it without an explosion. I see another creeper and turn, going north and getting away. The day is long. Along the way, I find a snow biome and take a swig of ice cold water. Not far from there, I accidentally stumble into an unseen ravine. I lost half my health and am severely wounded, knowing that I need to pay more attention. I get out and continue, eventually finding the perfect cave, nestled into a hill and well hidden. I set it up with torches and go for a pig. I can't find any. This is a problem. As night is coming I see some and acquire food for tonight and tomorrow morning...plus the 1 I already have. I get some stone and run back to my cave. I make some steps/ditches to stall mobs and watch the sun set outside. Night 4 has begun.
I eat my 1 cooked porkchop for dinner and make a crafting bench. Then I repair my tools and make a furnace. I cook both porkchops and prepare one for breakfast, looking outside to see a creeper near my cave. I push up against the wall, realizing that I could be done for tonight. No matter, I wait out the night for sunrise. About halfway through the night, I see a zombie...and it sees me. No problem. He moseys in and I easily clean him out, prepared for more. I hear walking and noises throughout the night, but nobody seems to spot me. Nothing else but the zombie comes in, besides the sunrise. It was a relatively quiet night. I am ready for today.
- day 5:
- I watch the sun come up and see a creeper jump around. I eat my cooked porkchop, nonetheless. I then go check outside, seeing a zombie that hasn't burned, hiding under a tree. I coax it to me and kill it, seeing a creeper nearby. I make sure it doesn't see me and escape. I set out north for a new biome and a new shelter. As I move along, I check my pack to see how I am doing. Suddenly, my chest tightens with a twinge of fear. I remember (and see) that I only have only 1 more piece of food for dinner tonight. This is a huge problem because I will starve from this long day of travel, if I have no food to eat. I continue on. Soon, I get my fresh water for the day and keep my senses focused for resources. Anyway, at about high noon, my luck really dropped in. There was, out of nowhere, a huge abundance of pigs and many cows! I took food--enough to last for 2 days, including tomorrow--and grabbed lots of leather for armour. I traveled on and started to get scared because at about 4:00, I was still in the snow biome. The sun started to set as I found a perfect shelter, hidden in a wall, with a water source right there. I quickly got some more leather and wood and hunkered down for the night.
As the sun set, I ate a cooked porkchop and dug into the wall a bit. I tore through a layer of stone for a furnace and crafted a work bench. I made the furnace and cooked all 4 new pieces of porkchops and then took out my leather. I crafted a tunic and some pants and put them on. Lucky for me, many pigs and chickens were messing around in the water. I felt comfortable and was happy that tonight was full of life. I then organized for the morning, planning to get rid of what I didn't need and fill my canister with water. Suddenly, I heard a skeleton. I knew he was right above me and waited there for morning. Overnight, I heard spiders too. Soon, a chicken outside laid an egg and, as I was curious, when I went over to get it a spider ambushed me. I hit it and swam back into my cave. I eventually killed it and the morning came. In the morning, I killed a spider waiting outside to get me and got its string. I then dropped off my extra stuff and exited the cave. I had made it through another day.
- day 6:
- I came out of my shelter, refilled my water for the day, and noticed 2 skeletons not burning...under some trees. One spotted me and dashed at me, burning in sunlight. It dropped into the water and stopped burning. I ran to move toward some string left over from the spider. The skeleton left the water and burned up immediately. I grabbed the string, took off my old beat up boots and used the string to tie the boots together on my back. I then put my arrows in this makeshift quiver and turned north to find my next home. Early in the day of walking, I happened upon my next biome. It was a forest with occasional mountains/hills. I knew I would have to find a cave of some sort tonight or I would be staying in a tree. At about noon, I had killed a cow for 2 pieces of leather (totaling 3 in my pack) and had seen no food sources. I noted that I would have to get wood tonight and continue on in the morning. Anyway, I eventually came on the perfect spot...a tree that took a series of jumps to get into. I jumped to it and cut it up as I pleased for convenient sheltering. At this point, I had daylight to kill and I didn't want to sit in my tree until night. I jumped out and grabbed stone nearby for a new sword, axe, and furnace for the night. I then walked around a nearby hill and saw my mornings water source and some pigs. I killed them - enough to last another 2 days in total - and went for wood. I chopped some trees in time for the sun to start its descent. I ran back to my tree and prepared for night 6, eating my dinner.
Sorry, I don't have a screenshot! Read on...
I jumped into my tree and quickly made a workbench to block any mobs from possibly jumping into my tree. I then created a furnace to cook my raw porkchops. I cooked them and made some new supplies, prepared for mobs to come. The first part of the night was long with some zombies playing in the distance and some skeletons partying with them. The second part of the night got more intense, as I saw some spiders and creepers nearby. Soon, a zombie spotted me and walked over, standing right under my tree. Then a creeper and a spider saw him and came over when, at the same time, 2 skeletons came over and shot at me joining with friends under my tree. Halfway through the night it started raining and I couldn't tell if it was day or not. When I did figure it was day, the party under my tree needed to go. I ate my breakfast and then dug out a "murder hole" to kill the spider, creeper, and zombie. I did this easily while knowing I still needed to kill the skeletons. I got pegged with some arrows and hurt a bit during it but not too much that I couldn't move. I then jumped out of my tree, dodging some arrows and ran to the nearby hill. I was going to descend on the skeletons (who were luckily under me) when, suddenly, I lost my footing. The next few seconds happened in slow motion. I fell, the air rushing past me, and the rain slapping my face. I knew with 2 hearts that I would die from this fall. I looked up and saw the skeletons, feeling disappointed because of my loss.
I hit the ground and received a red "Respawn" screen and knowing that I just failed my challenge.
