Hello Friends. I have a request to ask. In general chat can we please stop using the words cunt, nigger, faggot,and rape? I'm all for free speech and people speaking their minds, but these four words are really bad and over the edge. These words are full of hate, violence, and prejudice. If they're racist, fine. That's not cool. But the others are just words and I see nothing wrong with using them. 'Rape' especially is highly used and maybe overused in video games so I personally think you should get used to it. Cunt is a word for female genitalia, it may be 'vulgar' to some but I personally don't see anything vulgar about it, not anymore than saying dick, or calling someone such.

I wouldn't take it so seriously..

Yea, it's the internet and it would be impossible to regulate foul language without banning everyone for these words. But I would agree that excessive use of racial slurs is over the top.

Good morning Friends. When I woke up this morning, I was surprised to see how many responses my post received. Even though we don't all agree on some things, I'm glad we're able to talk about it respectfully. That's pretty cool.

Very quickly, I feel like I should tell you a bit about me, so you can kind of understand my point of view. I'm not a male; I'm a mom. Surprise! I'm female! Also, I came to this game because I was watching my 16 year old son play Minecraft on this server and it looked like a lot of fun... which it totally is! So now you get two surprises... I'm female and I'm an old lady. (In case you're wondering, I'll be 40 this summer. affraid

I'm glad that we more or less agree that nigger and faggot are unacceptable. I grew up in a time in which cunt didn't refer to just the female parts. It was a hate term used against women. It was just as bad as calling someone a nigger and worse than calling a woman a whore. I guess that's why I cringe every time I see it. Rape was also one of those words that carried a lot of violence and hate. We didn't use it in terms of video games, sports, etc. Back then, it was purely a violent sexual act against others, mainly female, but against anyone.

I'm an old lady from a different generation, so I see things a bit differently. I hope you don't mind. Cool people are cool people, no matter what age. Just like assholes are assholes, not matter what age. I've met a lot of really 'cool people' of all ages while playing this game, which makes this game even more fun for me.

As for ignoring the chat, sometimes I do. Usually when I kept really involved in a project I'm working on. (Just ask the couple of people who snuck up on me and accidentally got pvp'ed!) If I were to totally ignore the chat, I'd miss out on a lot funny things that are happening. You guys make me smile and make this game fun. I'm glad for that!

And, Liz, you did an awesome job banning that guy! Thanks for doing that. I'm not interested in having cool players banned if they say these words once in awhile. I would just like for people to be sensitive when using them and to not use them lightly.

Though in these days, children tend to learn much worse even in the first school years. I think a lot of these words have lost a lot of their power over the years, to the point where it's pretty much only used in a comical fashion, ie "raep!!!11 D: " (sp intended). I can pretty much guess why it's this way, with kids being pretty much the internet generation where everything is available a few clicks away, those insults aren't as much a taboo as they used to.
Of course intended racism is unacceptable and it's a good thing we got rid of a certain person.

It's also pretty much a case of different cultures.

Take for example "bollocks" or "shag". Just funny words for an American but for an Englishman they are significantly more lewd. As is the dutch word for "cunt" (kut). We generally use it in much the same way as an American uses "shit". Good example being "Kut! Ik had dit rapport gister in moeten leveren." (Shit! I should have handed this report in yesterday.)

edit: And yeah as Yarwood said. We deal with profanity on the server on a case-to-case basis. No problem with spouting a few profanities if you just been PKd but it shouldn't be excessive. Case in point being nagajaga earlier this week.

LOL, you guys are awesome which makes this game so much fun to play. I really do like how we can talk about this and sometimes disagree without being mean or ugly with each other. Like I said, you guys are awesome.

My son? He's a quiet guy in the game and pretty much keeps to himself. He also doesn't play nearly as much as I do. I'm a mom at home on extended medical leave from work, so I have more time to play Minecraft than he does.

I am sorry to have bothered you with what I said, but I'm glad to see you have risen above your experience and don't let it rule you like many victims of rape do. I certainly do not intend to imply your experience is inconsequential or to be dismissed as "nothing", but allow me to clarify my intended message.

It is MUCH easier, at least for myself and I'm fairly certain for many if not most others, to forgive that which was done to myself than it is to forgive someone for what they did to someone I care about.

When I was a junior in highschool I got a phone call telling me one of my close friends had been beaten raped by her stepfather. When I first saw her in the hospital she was comatose. She had four broken ribs, a broken nose, and a dislocated shoulder. Both eyes were swollen shut and she had bruises all over her body. She had been raped so viciously that her vaginal bleeding didn't stop for three days. She was in a coma for five weeks, and the first thing she did when she woke up was start screaming hysterically, begging him to stop and leave her alone. Once the nurse was able to calm her down, she clung to her and cried herself to sleep. I felt immense grief for her experiencing that, furious her step father for doing this, furious at God for it happening, and completely helps to do anything to comfort her.

Whenever someone says "rape" or some variation of it this memory comes back and haunts me again. I feel those emotions again. This is NOT what I want to think of or experience at any time, much less when I'm trying to enjoy some time on the server. Anyone who uses it gets a polite request to stop and a stern warning that repercussions will come if they don't. Further use of that word in presence and I WILL issue them a temporary ban.
